Allen "Al" Ternus, 79, of Genoa, Nebraska, died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Bryan Medical Center West Campus in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 6 at 10:30 AM, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Fr. Bill L'Heureux celebrating the Mass. Interment with military honors will be in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM vigil service. Visitation will continue Friday from 9:30 AM until service time, all at the church. The funeral service will be broadcast live on the Gass Haney Funeral Home Facebook page.

Allen Earl Ternus was born on April 25, 1943, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to George and Ella (Widhalm) Ternus. He grew up in Humphrey, Nebraska and attended St. Francis Catholic school until the eighth grade and then graduated from Humphrey High School in 1961. Al entered the United States Army on December 5, 1960 and served until his honorable discharge on December 21, 1964.

On October 5, 1968, Al was united in marriage to Alberta Kersten in Stanton, Nebraska. They farmed near Madison, Nebraska until 1974 and then moved to Genoa where they farmed for many years. Al loved antique tractors, going on tractor drives, and working in his garden. He was a faithful blood donor, having donated over 100 units of blood in his lifetime. He was a member of the Edward H. Larson Post #144 American Legion in Genoa and had served in the honor guard providing military honors for many veterans' funerals.
