Aleta Heins, 87, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at her home in Columbus at Prairie Village.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 27 at 10:30 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus, NE with Ollie Fullmer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue Monday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or the donor's choice. There will be a family prayer service on Monday at 10:15 AM in the "Fireside Room" at the church. Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard will be presenting honors at the close of the funeral service on Monday at the church. Aleta Heins was born July 11, 1937, to Louis and Myrtle (Welin) Bokelman in Genoa, Nebraska. She attended country grade school District 13 and then District 3 after moving to Columbus with her parents in 1948. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1954 and then attended Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree. She graduated from Creighton Memorial St. Joseph's Hospital of Nursing in 1959.
Aleta was united in marriage to Roland Heins on January 31, 1960, at Trinity Lutheran Church. They lived a short time in Wayne and Platte Center, Nebraska, before moving back to Columbus in 1968. She was a registered nurse at Columbus Community Hospital for 40 years, retiring in January 2001. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus and was actively involved with different volunteer quilting groups. She enjoyed playing her piano for her own enjoyment, counted-cross stitching, socializing with her many friends and baking cookies for her grandkids.
Aleta was proceeded in death by her parents - Louis and Myrtle; husband - Roland; sister and brother-in-law - Elaine and Robert Zahn; brother-in-law - Robert Berlin; and great-grandchild - Francis Haberman.
Aleta is survived by: daughter - Elizabeth Augustine (David) Schulte of Columbus, NE; son - Jeffrey (Kelly) Heins of Des Moines, WA; daughter - Pamela (Warren) Erickson of Yankton, SD; grandchildren: Joshua Augustine of Omaha, NE, Jonathon (Liefsbeth DeCocker) Augustine of Lincoln, NE, Jennifer Augustine of Elkhorn, NE, Kelly (Ethan) Haberman of Lincoln, NE; Sgt. Chase (Cara) Erickson of San Diego, CA, Kasey (Joshua) Galvan-Hofer of Surprise, AZ; great-grandchildren: George Augustine of Lincoln, NE and Nora Augustine of Elkhorn, NE; sister – Bernetta Berlin of Columbus, NE; and sisters-in-law: Linda Nissen of Lincoln, NE and Evelyn Heins of Lamesa, TX.
