Lieutenant Colonel Ret. James N. Laska
Lieutenant Colonel Ret. James N. Laska, 71 of Duncan, Nebraska, died Sunday, November 29, 2009, at the Columbus Community Hospital. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, December 3 at 10:30 AM at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Nebraska, with Fr. Rod Kneifl officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM vigil service all at the church. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9:30 AM until service time also at the church. James N. Laska was born August 29, 1938, in Duncan, Nebraska, to Leo and Genevieve (Scheidts) Laska. He received his early education in Duncan and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in Columbus, Nebraska. James attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. James later went on to attend the Alabama A & M University where he received his Masters in Business Administration. James was united in marriage to Karen Pallas on December 28, 1963, in Linwood, Nebraska. James entered the United States Army on November 13, 1961, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on October 31, 1984. James then began a 22 year career with CAS, Inc., a major DoD weapon systems analysis contractor in Huntsville, Alabama, where he was part of the Patriot Missile program. After his retirement in 2007, James moved back to Duncan, Nebraska. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, coaching youth bowling, and was a member of the VFW Post 10724 of Duncan. James is survived by:
