Marian Prentice, 92, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Osceola, Nebraska. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 1:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Dr. Jim Wooten officiating. There will be no visitation since Marian's wishes were to have her body donated to science. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the American Bible Society, Platte County Historical Society or the Columbus Senior Center. Marian and her twin sister, Edna, were born in Bentonville, Arkansas, on December 25, 1916, to George and Hazel (Perrin) Reeder. They spent their earliest years in Lincoln, Nebraska, on the University Agricultural Farm and then their school years in Columbus. Marian graduated from Kramer High School in 1934. On June 12, 1938, Marian was united in marriage to C. Walter Prentice in Columbus. She was active in the Federated Church, PTA, Platte County Historical Society, Columbus Senior Center, and the Tuesday TV Dinner Fellowship. Marian worked part-time at the Columbus Public Library, started the first in-town girl's 4-H club, was a Girl and Boy Scout leader, and was a good friend and neighbor to many.
