Frances G. Henderson

Frances G. Henderson, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at the Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 6, 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Ritter officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Columbus Public Library.

Frances G. Henderson was born June 8, 1918 in Chickasha, OK to William and Rena (Popejoy) Sanders.  She attended school in and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1935. Frances then attended college at Oklahoma College for Women and graduated in 1940. She enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve in March of 1944 and was honorably discharged in August of 1947 after having attained a rank of staff sergeant.  In 1947, Frances married James W. Henderson in Chickasha .  They moved to Columbus and Frances went to work for Dale Electronics where she worked until her retirement in 1980.

Frances was a member of the First United Methodist Church . She was a Reach to Recovery volunteer for the American Cancer Society, a member of the Book Review Club, American Contract Bridge Club, and participated in the local Duplicate Bridge Club. Frances was an avid bowler, serving as City Association officer and secretary for many years. She was a charter member of the Van Berg Golf Association, serving as secretary for 2 years. Frances was the Nebraska champion in the Foster Farms cooking contest and went on to compete in the National contest in Atlanta, GA.
