J. R. "Whiff" Warner, 83 of Columbus, Nebraska died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. A celebration of J. R.'s life will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus. Special remembrances will be given by Rick Warner, Dr. Greg Warner, Kris Kingston and Korb Warner. Military honors will be by The American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association. A lunch will be served at the VFW Club following the service. Juel R. Warner was born September 14, 1922 in De Smet, South Dakota to Lyle and Ann (Odegard) Warner. He graduated from Norfolk High School and received his bachelors degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. On May 20, 1943, Juel entered the US Army, serving during WWII with the parachute infantry. He was honorably discharged on July 14, 1945. On March 27, 1948 he married Ruth Korb in Norfolk, Nebraska. They settled in Columbus, Nebraska where J. R. worked for Behlen Manufacturing Company, retiring as advertising and sales manager. He enjoyed gardening, golf, sports, and trips to Las Vegas. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.
