Werner "Vern" Osten, 87 , of Columbus, Nebraska, died Sunday, November 25, 2001 at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Services will be on Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at 10:00 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Michael Klatt and Rev. Ernest Smith officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Creston, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 27, 2001 from 3-8 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Wednesday, November 28, 2001, from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday at 9:45 AM at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Creston Rescue Unit or Peace Lutheran Church. Vern was born February 18, 1914 in Columbus, Nebraska to Louis & Lena (Janssen) Osten. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and on January 22, 1941 he was united in marriage to Hilda Luedtke at St. John's Lutheran Church north of Columbus. They farmed together north of Columbus. Vern was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church, 14 miles north of Columbus. He was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League and enjoyed bowling with them. He loved baseball and Nebraska football. After retiring and moving to Columbus, he became a member of Peace Lutheran Church and delivered meals on wheels.
