ROBERT "BOB" E. GAHAN

 

Robert "Bob" E. Gahan, 76, of Columbus, died Saturday,October 28, 2000 at Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus .Services will be held at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church Columbus, NE on Thursday, November 02, 2000 at 2:00 PM with Father Dan Keller officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home after 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 31, 2000 with a 7:30 P.M. Vigil Service.. 
Robert (Bob) E. Gahan was born July 2, 1924 in Columbus, Nebraska to John B. and Blanche B. (Hargleroad) Gahan. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1942, attended Midland College, Creighton University, Wayne State College and graduated from the San Francisco School of Mortuary Science. He served in the Army Air Force from April 20, 1943 to February 28, 1946. Robert married Angeline F. Blaser on August 6, 1946 in Columbus, Nebraska. Robert and Angeline lived in Lyons, Nebraska for 4 years, Oakland, Nebraska for 32 years and then moved to Columbus in 1989. He was a Funeral Director for the Palmquist Funeral Home in Oakland and also the Piper Funeral Home in Lyons. 
Robert was a life member of the American Legion Hartman Post 84, the Eagle's and St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. He was a member of the American Legion in Oakland and Lyon's and served in all the offices. He was a former member and past president of the Oakland Lion's Club, served on the Oakland School Board for 18 years, drove an Oakland school bus for 12 years. Robert was also a member of the Oakland Chamber of Commerce and involved in the American Legion baseball program for 20 years. He was a member for 36 years of St. Joesph's Catholic Church in Lyon's and also served on the church council.
In April of this year he was honored by the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association for 50 years of service as a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer.
Robert and Angeline were dedicated to each other through 54 years of marriage.

Daughter: Karen (Robert) Tarnow -  Kansas City, MO 
Daughter: Nora (Rick) Eriksen -  Craig, NE 
Daughter: Rita (Roger) Houdersheldt -  Shelby, NE 
Daughter: Janice (Ron) Rech -  Omaha, NE 
Sister: Marilyn (Vern) Bartholomew -  Columbus, NE 
Sister: Helen (Dave) Johnston -  Houston, TX 
Grandchildren 28
