Lois Loomis, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at the Edgewood Vista in Columbus. The memorial service will be Thursday, March 18, 10:30 A.M. at the Grace Episcopal Church in Columbus. Interment will be on Thursday, March 18, 9:30 A.M. in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Platte County Historical Society or the Columbus Public Library. Lois was born in Alliance, Nebraska to Fred and Wilma (Bruce) Carlson. She lived in Alliance, Southern California, and Omaha before moving to Columbus in 1937. She graduated from Kramer High School in 1939, and then graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1943. She spent one year teaching home economics before going to work for the U. S. government in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in 1943 to 1944. She married her high school classmate, Laird H. Loomis, on January 29, 1945 at Grace Episcopal Church in Columbus. They made their home in Columbus where she was an active member at Grace Episcopal Church for over 70 years. She was also a 50 plus year member of P.E.O. , and enjoyed sewing and cooking as well as dancing and going to book and bridge clubs. She was also a devoted fan of Nebraska football and attended many games from the 1950's through the 1980's.
