Ida Harnapp, 100, of Columbus, Nebraska, passed on to Heaven to live with Jesus on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Columbus. The funeral service will be Saturday, October 25, 10:30 A.M. at the Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Klatt and Ernest Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M. Memorials may be directed to Concordia College, Harnapp Scholarship Fund at North Columbia Ave., Seward, NE 68434 Ida Harnapp was born January 25, 1908, in rural Platte County, Nebraska, near Christ Lutheran Church, to Johannes and Amalia (Korte) Behrens. Ida had 5 sisters and one brother. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church and attended Christ Lutheran School. On February 20, 1930, Ida married Oscar Harnapp at Christ Lutheran Church. They were blessed with twin sons, Arlyn and Harlan, who were born in 1932. Arlyn died 1 1/2 years later. In 1936, another son Vern, was born. Ida's early married years were spent farming near Center, Nebraska, before returning to the Columbus area where Oscar worked for the Peter Kiewatt Company on the Loup River Power Project at Lake Babcock in the 1930's. During World War II, Ida entered the paid workforce, working for Swift and Company in the cream and milk testing department. From 1944 to 1955, Ida and Oscar founded and operated the Handy Grocery Store at 20th St. and 22nd Ave. In 1955, they moved to a farm north of Arapahoe until 1960 when they retired to Kearney, Nebraska. Oscar died in March of 1993 after 63 years of marriage. Following his death, Ida moved back to Columbus and lived at Realife Center for 15 years. Her son Harlan passed away in April of 2005 in Broomfield, Colorado. Ida enjoyed quilting and sewing. Ida always said that she owed her longevity to daily prayer and one Michelob beer a day.
